EXCUSES AND ALIBIS

I thought of all the reasons why

I shouldn't use an alibi,

But it's such an easy thing to do,

I'll keep making them, just like you.

I even made excuses while lying in bed

As other thoughts went through my head.

I thought of all the things I must do,

But decided to stay here, in bed with you.

Make excuses and alibis. Who me? No way!

I'm really going to be a success some day.

My time is coming you just wait and see

Rich and famous is what I'll someday be.

Setting goals, making plans, just a waste of time,

Oh, I almost forgot, I have tennis at nine.

I'll do it tomorrow; I'm too busy today,

I want to have fun, to go out and play.

I have a lifetime to work; I'm young and strong,

Playing a couple of tennis sets won't take long.

But now I realize what is meant by "life's short"

When I suffered heart attack on the court.

There I was looking up at the clear blue sky

Asking that age-old question --- Why?

Kneeling beside me was my tearful wife

Watching the end of my young, strong life.

I never got to do what I wished I could,

If I had another chance, you know I would

Get off my ass, 'cause time really flies,

Make no more excuses, no more alibis.
